Find Your Cool in Van’s Clothing

In 1966, The Van Doren Rubber Company opened its doors for business in Anaheim, California, selling shoes made on premises directly to the public. The company sold twelve pairs of Vans #44 Deck on that first morning. The shoes, now known as “Authentic,” were similar in design to those manufactured by other casual footwear brands, but with thicker, sticky soles. These rugged qualities made them especially popular with skateboarders, who were soon seen sporting them all over southern California.
